Indigestion is a disease of the Stomach.
The process of breaking down food into smaller pieces is digestion. But when there is abnormal digestion it is Indigestion.
It is an upset stomach or discomfort in the upper abdomen.
There is a feeling of fullness of tummy during eating meals.

When people gulp their food in a hurry or in large chunks, then stomach has to work harder.
It secretes more hydrochloride and force the digestive fluids into the esophagus. It causes a burning sensation.

The very important function of our body is Digestion of food. The Ayurveda says that food is not that important, what important is the digestion of food. When there is proper digestion of food, our body gets essential nutrients and energy.

When we eat food, it directly goes to a small pouch lying just above the Stomach, known as Epigastrium. The moment we eat our first bite, the digestion starts from the mouth and the body heat ( Agni or Body fire ) is released in the Epigastrium. The food is digested with the help of this heat. But if we drink water, after or in between the meal, the heat gets suppressed. As a result, instead of digestion, the food decays and causes Flatulence. This Flatulence is a root cause of more than 100 diseases like

Single Herb

Lemon ( Nimbo ) for Indigestion

Mix Lemon juice and Honey in equal quantity. Take 1 tsp a day.

Garlic ( Lehsun ) for Digestive Disorders

Make an Infusion of crushed garlic cloves in water or milk. Drink once a day.

Prepare leaf tea and drink One cup a day for good appetite.

Fennel ( Saunf ) for Indigestion

Chew half teaspoon Fennel ( Saunf ) after each meal. It helps to digest the food.

Indian Sarsaparilla ( Anantmool ) Root for Indigestion

Indian Sarsaparilla ( Anantmool ) helps to improve digestion problems. It tones up the digestive system which cures Indigestion and related problems.
Grind dried Indian Sarsaparilla ( Anantmool ) Root. Take quarter a teaspoon of powder with lukewarm milk or Honey.

Papaya ( Papita ) for Indigestion

Consume 20 gm ripe Papaya before 20 mins. of your meal. It contain enzymes which helps in better Digestion.
Prepare tea made from Indian Pennywort ( Brahma Manduki ). It helps in case of indigestion.

Rhubarb ( Amla Vetasa ) for Indigestion

Soak the rootstock of Rhubarb ( Amla Vetasa ) in some cold water for 9-10 hours.
Take One tablespoon just before meals.

Pointed Gourd for Anorexia

Include cooked Pointed Gourd in your daily diet. It is Digestive and helps in increasing Appetite.

Rosa Rugosa for Indigestion

Boil half tablespoon powdered achenes with One cup water till it is reduced to half cup.
Drink twice a day.

Cumin ( Jeera ) for Digestive Disorders

Chew 2 g Cumin seeds after your meal. It helps in proper Digestion.

Fenugreek ( Methi ) for Indigestion

Boil half teaspoon of Fenugreek ( Methi ) in a cup of water. Strain. Drink it everyday. It cures indigestion problems.

Oregano ( Sathra ) Oil for Indigestion

Put 2 drops of Oregano ( Sathra ) Oil in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it.

Nutmeg ( Jaiphal ) for Indigestion

Add 3-4 drops of Nutmeg ( Jaiphal ) oil in 1 tsp Honey. Have this mixture once a day.

Yellow Dock ( Churka ) for Indigestion

Take the chopped roots of Yellow Dock ( Churka ) in a cup.
Pour over some boiling water.
Cover it and let steep for half an hour.
Now filter and reheat.
Drink according to your need.

Alfalfa for Indigestion

Chew 2-3 fresh leaves of Alfalfa daily. It enhance your Digestion.

Bael for Indigestion

Crush ripe Bael fruit. Add it to boiled water for 3 hours. Reheat the solution. Filter. Take 10 ml three times a day.

Chayote for Indigestion

Cook leaves of Chayote in water until they get soft. Eat 10 g twice a day.

Parsley ( Ajmod ) for indigestion

The Digestive and Carminative properties of Parsley ( Ajmod in India ) soothe the digestive tract. It stimulates the secretion of bile juice which helps in proper digestion of food.
Take 4 to 5 fresh leaves of Parsley. Chew them very well and swallow with a glass of water. Repeat this daily for 1 to 2 weeks to treat Indigestion.

Boerhavia Diffusa for Indigestion

Make a decoction of root powder of Boerhavia Diffusa in 80ml boiling water. Strain the decoction after it reaches to 50 ml. Drink it once a day.

Passion Flower for Indigestion

Drink 2 cups of Passionflower tea when you feel gastrointestinal discomfort.

Wheatgrass for Indigestion

Consume 50 ml juice of Wheatgrass in the morning on an empty stomach. It takes half to one hour to digest but it enhances the strength of your digestive system.
Note: Do not consume any other food over it till one hour.

Guava ( Amrood ) for Indigestion

Extract out the juice of Guava ( Amrood ) leaves. Consume a glass of this juice thrice a day to improve digestion. It also provides relief from stomach ache.

Areca Nut for Indigestion

Chew 2 -3 Areca Nut peels after meals.

Bauhinia for Indigestion

Prepare a decoction of Bauhinia roots. Drink this decoction twice a day. Continue, until the symptoms persist.

Pithecellobium Dulce for Indigestion

Boil few Pithecellobium Dulce leaves in 150 ml of water for 5 minutes. Add a pinch of Salt ( Namak ) in the water. Boil it for another 5 minutes.

Black Plum for Indigestion

Mix 10 ml of Jamun Vinegar in one cup of water. Drink it.

Bastard Sandal for Indigestion

Put a bark of Bastard Sandal in 400 ml of water. Boil it for 15 to 20 minutes. Then, allow it to cool. Now, drink this decoction once daily to get the complete cure from Indigestion.

Brahmi Oil for Indigestion

Gently massage over the abdomen area with the Brahmi Oil daily for 20-25 minutes.
It will relieve upset stomach.

Ziziphus Joazeiro for Indigestion

Prepare an infusion, made of Ziziphus Joazeiro leaves and one cup of hot water. Strain and drink half cup of it, 2 times a day.

Asafoetida ( Hing ) for Indigestion

Mix a pinch of Asafoetida powder in one cup of Buttermilk. Consume it. It will provide relive from Gas Problems.
You can also use lukewarm water instead of Buttermilk.

Indian Gooseberry ( Amla ) for Indigestion

Mix 1 teaspoon each of Amla powder and Clarified Butter( Ghee ). Add a pinch of Rock Salt in it. Consume it with hot cooked rice.

Almond Oil ( Badam ka Tel ) for Indigestion

Take 2 teaspoons of Sweet Almond Oil, once in a day for 1 week.

Malkangani Oil for Indigestion

Malkangani Oil stimulates the secretion of gastric juices thus, making the digestion easy.
Consume half teaspoon of Malkangani Oil mixed in one glass of warm Milk daily.

Black Pepper ( Kali Mirch ) for Indigestion

Grind Black Peppercorns, Ginger and Rock Salt in equal proportion. Mix half teaspoon of this mixture in one glass of Buttermilk. Consume it.

Black Salt for Indigestion

Add a pinch of Black Salt and half teaspoon of roasted Cumin powder in one glass of Buttermilk. Drink it.

Fig ( Anjeer ) for Indigestion

Consume 5 grams of Figs daily.
It will provide relief from Indigestion.

Clove ( Laung ) for Indigestion

Take two teaspoons of Clove and roast it. Add this roasted Cloves in one cup of boiling water. Leave it aside for 30 minutes. Consume one teaspoon of this solution, three times a day.

Peppermint for Indigestion

Grind 8 to 10 fresh Peppermint leaves to make a paste. Add Caraway seeds in the paste. Consume one tablespoon of this mixture.
OR : Add fresh crushed Peppermint leaves to a glass of water. Add 1 Lemon and a pinch of Rock salt also. Have this drink every morning for better digestion.

Peppermint Essential Oil for Indigestion

Put 4-5 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil in one glass of water. Drink it after meals.
It will provide relief From Indigestion.

Pomegranate ( Anar ) for Indigestion

Roast one teaspoon of Cumin seeds. Grind this roasted Cumin seeds with Jaggery in a ratio of 1:1. Mix this mixture in 20 ml of fresh Pomegranate fruit juice with a pinch of Common Salt added in it. Consume it.

Aniseed Essential Oil for Indigestion

Aniseed Essential Oil when inhaled provides relief from Nausea and Vomiting. Diffuse Aniseed Essential Oil in your home or in the area where you spend most of the time.

Commiphora Mukul ( Guggul ) for Indigestion

Have 1/2 teaspoon powder of Commiphora Mukul with lukewarm water once in a day before meal.

Chirreta for Indigestion

Prepare a decoction of Chirreta leaves. Take it, thrice a day.

Asparagus Racemosus for Indigestion

Make root decoction of Asparagus Racemosus. Filter and drink by adding some Honey.

Aristolochia Indica for Indigestion

Take Aristolochia Indica root powder with warm water.

Alstonia Scholaris for Indigestion

Make an infusion of Alstonia Scholaris bark powder. Drink during bedtime.

Cinnamon ( Dalchini ) For Indigestion

Boil few sticks of Cinnamon in 2 cups of water. Drink lukewarm.

Cardamom ( Choti Ilaichi ) for Indigestion

Boil few seeds of Cardamom in One cup of water for 15 minutes. Drink lukewarm.

Caraway for Indigestion

Take half teaspoon Caraway seeds. Chew them well and swallow.

Bay Leaf for Indigestion

Add one Bay Leaf in vegetable soup. Take. It improves digestion.

Dalbergia Lanceolaria for Indigestion

Prepare a decoction of Dalbergia Lanceolaria bark. Take it, twice a day.

Take 5 gram Picrorhiza with lukewarm water. Have it two times a day.

Soak half teaspoon Cubebs in a glass of warm water for 5 minutes. Have twice a day.

Indian Sorrel for Indigestion

Powder the dried leaves. Boil two teaspoon in a cup of buttermilk. Take once a day.

Rue for Indigestion

Make decoction of dried leaves. Take two times a day.

Sweet Flag for Indigestion

Make a decoction of the root powder. Let it stand. Drink 4 times a day.
Burn the root till it gets char. Grind to make powder. Take half teaspoon a day with lukewarm water.

Champak for Indigestion

Prepare infusion of flowers. Take one cup once a day for 3 days.

Dandelion for Indigestion

Take leaves as salad or Prepare a juice of leaves and root. Take it twice a day.

Caper for Indigestion

Take some leaves. Clean them. Soak in a jug of water. Drink it whole day.

Indian Borage for Indigestion

Take some leaves. Clean with fresh water. Chew for 5 minutes. Drink warm water after chewing. Do this once a day.

Herbal Treatment For Indigestion 5

Grind Gulancha Tinospora ( Giloy in India ) stem and Ginger ( Adrak in India ) separately. Take one pinch of Tinospora Cordifolia ( Guduchika in India ) stem powder and 2 pinch of Ginger ( Adrak in India ) powder and boil in a cup of water. Drink it.

Grind some fresh Coriander ( Dhaniya ) leaves to take out the juice. Now add One teaspoon of Cumin Seed ( Jeera ) powder and a pinch of salt. Mix all the ingredients in a glass of water and drink. It is a magical remedy for Indigestion.

Bay Leaf ( Tejpatta in India ) is a strong digestive herb. It helps to sooth the digestive tract and reduces heart burn due to Indigestion. Ginger ( Adrak in India ) stimulates the digestive juices which supports proper digestion of food.
Add 5gm to 6 gm of dried Bay leaves and a piece of Ginger in 200 ml water. Boil till it remains 1/4th of the initial amount. Add Honey for taste. Have it two times a day.

Dear Team
My son is 30. he works in MNC. he works late night, often returns home the next day. as a result he has developed acidity, bloated stomach. even his defecation timings are disturbed. the bowel movements occur late evenings around 7pm. how can this be set right. Thanks in advance
