Obesity General

Obesity is the condition of excessive fat accumulation in the body. Obesity was once considered a disease of wealthy nations. However, today it affects people in almost every country. It has become a Global cause of concern in the last decade.
Our body needs energy for performing activities. We get this energy in form of calories from the food we eat. All foods contain calories, although level of calories may vary depending upon the type of food we eat. When we eat food, the food gets digested and nutrients are absorbed by the body into bloodstreams. These nutrients provide energy and will be used by the body for performing daily activities. Extra calories those are unused get stored in the form of fat into the body.
It is difficult to calculate the amount of fat in a body. However, it is commonly measured with Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator. BMI or Quetelet index for a person is calculated by dividing his weight in kilograms (kg) by his height in meters (m) squared i.e. weight (kg)/(height(m)* height(m)). A body with BMI equal to or more than 25 is considered as Overweight and a body with BMI equal to or more than 30 is considered as Obese. Complete BMI index is given below.

Underweight: BMI below 18.5
Normal Weight: BMI between18.5 and 24.9
Overweight: BMI between 25 and 29.9
Obese: BMI 30 and above:

Overeating and lack of exercise are considered a major contributor to Obesity. Generally Obesity occurs when a person intakes more calories than he/she burns. It is normal to intake a high calorie diet unless you can burn those extra calories with the levels of activity or exercise. Key is to maintain a balance between your eating habits and your levels of activity. A person with a sedentary life style is more prone to develop Obesity than an active individual. Obesity may also be a result of Genetics, Hormonal or Medical Problems, Pregnancy, Lack of Sleep and Certain Medicines. Obesity increases the chance of developing major health problems like High Blood Pressure, Stroke, Coronary Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, Kidney Failure, Cancer, Hypertension and Reduction in Life Span. An Obese person may also suffer from Shortness of Breath, Sore Joints, Tiredness and Skin Problems.

Eat raw Cabbage as salad.

Spermacoce Hispida for Obesity

Grind dried plant of Spermacoce Hispida to make a powder. Consume 4 g of it daily. It helps in reducing weight.

You should cure the problem of Hypothyroidism first. If this is resolved, you may find reduction in your weight as well. Try Ashwagandha, it is one of the top Herbs for curing Hypothyroidism. hai, Once u consult your doctor, if u think u are obese because of { eating burgers, fst foods, in restaurants, pizzas, oily food, doing very less work, eating more at a time } then prefer home food, do regularly 30 mins of workout, 15 mins cardiovascular , i.e., some straining exercise which produces sweating, then 20 mins walk u can afford. and eating oily food resist yourself , drink lemon and honey with hot water for sure u will reduce weight. if thyrodism is present then u have to take medicine that will give result.

Mainly, this is a metabolic malfunction. Your body is not consuming the food in a proper manner. Please do the following -
1. Alkalize the body- The most effective method is Baking Soda- Take 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda, juice of a lemon in a glass of water.
Drink it 4 times a day for a week.
Now, reduce that 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda to half. Take it for next 14 days.
In this course of 21 days, your body should become alkaline.

Hello Herbpathy I have just come across your site it's so good and informative. I am 34 and weight is 83kg and height 5.3inch. I am a hypothyroid from last 5 years after the birth of my only child and having irregular periods too with facial hair and now with grade one fatty liver. I am taking thyroxine 150mcg daily, with this my tsh level is control but with no weight lose. I am also taking a herbal syrup from which my periods are regular. I want to know which diet should I take and which herb should take to reduce weight and should I take milk thistle for fatty liver. Please reply I am so much worried. Thank you

Yes, You may take Milk Thistle for fatty liver, But there is one more herb that is more effective as compare to milk thistle and that is Kutki ( Picrorhiza Kurroa ). Buy capsules or tablets and take 1 every day for 15 days only.
For Thyroid take the following.
1. Take 1 teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder with a glass of water.
2. Buy Thyroidinum 3X, take 4 small white tablets 2 times in a day. Thyroid may fluctuate from hyper to hypo and vice versa.
3. To loose weight, we suggest you to drink Green Leaf juice daily and go for exercise daily. Eat a healthy diet and detoxify your body on regular intervals. Drink plenty of water.
It is good that you have regular periods. We suggest you not take any kind of medication associated with menses during your Periods. It may disturb the natural system and you may have hormonal imbalance or Facial hair.

Thank you so much for your reply it's really helpful. Will you please suggest which vegetables should I use for green juice and when to take the juice? Some vegetables are not good for hypothyroid patients. And I also want to know should I continue my thyroxin tablets or stop it. Please reply I would be very helpful for me and Thanks again. Hi, I am 33 years , 5 feet height and weight is 75 kg. Having pcos more than 15 years. Irregular menses, some times heavy continuos bleeding for one month or more. For Pcos you may try the following.
1. Have Saw Palmetto capsule every day.
2. Have a cup of Chaste Berry tea every day.
3. Buy Metformin tablets and have 1 every day. If you have low sugar then avoid this as it is also recommended for diabetic patients.

To loose your weight we advise you to please go for regular exercise and join some yoga classes.

Dear Hassan Your weight is not normal as per your age. The fat that gets deposited on the belly, thighs and arms is the extra calories that do not burn. Avoid eating sugary, fatty and oily food. 1. Boil 2 big spoons full of Fennel in water for 10 mins. Cool it and store it in a glass bottle or jar. Drink this water before lunch. Repeat the process after lunch. Take it for 1 week.
Or you can have fennel water early in the morning. Either boil fennel in a cup of water, or soak 1 teaspoon of Fennel in a glass of water overnight. Take it early in the morning for 15 days.

I am 5'7" tall and weigh 140kgs I have hypothyroid so I take eltroxin I also have cardiomyopathy I take metoprolol and elequis for this, I also take pantoloc for acid reflux. My body is very weak tired and pain, I get out of breath very easy. I have trouble doing excercise yoga because of bloating. What can I do?

I just came across your page today and I'm so grateful :)
I was already pre-diabetic and while recently hospitalized with pneumonia from Covid, I became Diabetic.
I am Obese 5ft Tall weighing 240lbs when I should be about 150lb ideally.
