Description
Athetosis is a disease of the Brain and the Body.
The Neurological disorder that causes involuntary movements of Hands, Feet, Neck and other parts of the Body is Athetosis.
In Athetosis, a person is unable to control the movements of his muscles. It occurs when the basal ganglion cells present in the Brain get damaged. These cells control the movement of the Muscles. They normally transmit the Nerve signals from the Brain to the Spinal cord and then to the Limbs. Athetosis causes impairment of the Brain signals that transmit between the Brain and the Spinal Cord. If the Facial Muscles are affected, it causes Drooling and difficulty in speaking. The patient may not be able to hold objects in his Hands. If the muscles of the Legs and Arms are affected, the patient may not be able to control his movements while Sitting, Walking or Standing. He is not able to perform his daily activities properly.
