Description
Apraxia is a disease of the Body and the Brain.
When a person is not able to do certain physical activities even if the Muscles are normal, it is Apraxia.
Human Brain is divided into two hemispheres. The Left Hemisphere controls the Voluntary movements of right side of the Body. The Right Hemisphere controls the Voluntary movements of Left side of the Body. Damage to any of these Hemispheres of the Brain, results in Apraxia. It causes impairment of the Brain to control the Voluntary Movements.

Damage to the Brain Hemispheres
If not treated properly, Apraxia may cause
Loss of using and understanding, Movements and Gestures.
Note 1 : The term Apraxia is used for the complete Loss of Movements and Gestures. But if there is partial loss of Movements and Gestures, then it is Dyspraxia .
Note 2 : When there is no coordination between the Brain and the Speech Muscles, the term used is Aprexia of Speech. It is dealt with separately in this Portal.
