Brain Stroke is a disorder of the Brain.
When the Brain cells die because of inadequate supply of oxygen, we call it a Stroke. The functions of the Brain become impaired after a Stroke.
Brain is a very important part of the Body. Like other body parts, it needs a continuous supply of oxygen rich blood. The blood also carries nutrients that are required by the brain tissues to function properly. But, in any case if the blood fails to reach the brain, the tissues begin to die. The death of the tissues in the Brain is termed as Stroke.
The Stroke may be associated with Atherosclerosis. In this the blood vessels are blocked due to deposition of plaque on their walls.
When a Stroke occurs due to the formation of a blood clot in the Brain, we call it an Ischemic stroke.
If a Stroke occurs due to a ruptured artery, we call it an hemorrhagic stroke.

Note: Chain Smokers and women who take contraceptives are more prone to have Stroke.
Differential Diagnosis : People are often get confused between the three terms that is Stroke, Cardiac arrest and Heart Attack. They all are associated with the Heart, but are different.
Heart attack: The main function of the Heart is to pump the Blood. It takes deoxygenated blood from the body parts and in return gives oxygen rich blood to the Body organs. Oxygen rich blood acts as a fuel. Some times the fatty matter starts depositing on the walls of the Arteries and over the time, they form plaque. As a result the Arteries will become narrower and get hardened. Due to this the Heart muscles will not get enough supply of Blood and causes Heart Attack.
Cardiac Arrest: It is associated with the electrical impulses that occurs in the Heart. The Heart muscles contract and relax to pump the blood. If some thing goes wrong with these electrical impulses, the Heart will not pump the Oxygen rich blood.
Stroke: It occurs in Brain but is a result of malfunctioning of the Heart. When the Heart fails to pump the oxygen rich blood to the Brain, it causes Brain stroke.
