Materia Medica for Cedarwood

Cedarwood General

Pinus Deodara is also known as Cedrus Deodara. It is a pyramid shaped evergreen tree. It flowers in September and October. The seeds shed from September to December. It balances Kapha and Vata Dosha. Deodar Pine Tree possesses Antifungal properties. People suffering from Asthma are advised to sit under Deodar Pine Tree early in the morning. Different parts of the tree are used for different purposes.
Wood
A decoction made from the wood of Deodar Pine tree is used medicinally. The oil made from the distillation of wood is used to cure Bronchitis, Skin eruptions, Tuberculosis and Gonorrhea.
The inner part of the wood is used for making Essential oils used in Aromatherapy.
Resin
Resin is obtained from the wood of Deodar Pine Tree. Topically it is used to treat Bruises, Skin Diseases and Joint injuries.
Bark
The Bark possesses Astringent in nature. It is useful in the treatment of Fevers, Diarrhea and Dysentery.
Leaves
In Ayurveda, the leaves are used in the treatment of Tuberculosis.
Seed
Oil obtained from the seed of Deodar Pine Tree is Diaphoretic in nature. It is used externally and orally for the treatment of Syphilis.
In Traditional Ayurvedic medicine, the Pine needles and Bark are used to cure Cancer, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cold, Cough and Hiccups.
Pollen
Pine tree is monoecious. It has both male and female reproductive organs in the same plant. The male flower of the tree called male catkins holds grain like particles called pollen. The female flower produces egg shaped cones. The pollen from male flowers fertilize the female flower through air and insects. The Pine Pollen of Cedarwood is used for medicinal benefits. The pollen is a natural Testosterone booster. It also treats sexual problems in both male and female. It keeps the Immune System healthy.
