Barberry General

Barberry or Berberis vulgaris is an evergreen deciduous shrub. It grows well in Europe, Africa and Asia. It is a detoxifying herb with an excellent stimulating properties.

Decoction: Make a tea.
Put l/2 teaspoonful of the powdered root or bark or leaves in a cup of water. Boil it. Simmer for l0 minutes. Drink three times a day.

Single Herb

Barberry for Jaundice

Make a decoction of Barberry. Take 1/2 teaspoon once a day.

Barberry for Menstruals disorders

Make a decoction of the leaves of Barberry. Take it two times a day.

Barberry for Skin Diseases

Take Barberry powder and sprinkle liberally on bacterial Skin Infections and septic Wounds.

Barberry for Scurvy

Boil few Barberry leaves in 1 cup of water. Drink this half cup decoction once a day.

Barberry as Ophthalmic

Crush dried roots of Barberry to make powder. Add 8 g of it in lukewarm water. Use it as an Eyewash or Eye Compress.

Barberry ( Chitra ) for Gallstones

Take Barberry ( Chitra ) bark and roots in equal proportion. Boil in water to make a decoction. Have 2 teaspoons twice a day.

Barberry ( Chitra ) for Urinary Tract Infection

Steep One teaspoon crushed Barberry ( Chitra ) in 2 cups of hot water for 10-15 minutes.
Sip it slowly. Take Once or twice daily.
Do not use more than 7 consecutive days at a time.
Avoid during pregnancy.

Take equal quantity of Snowflower, Barberry and Boldo leaves. Grind them together. Have half teaspoon with lukewarm water daily.

I have kidney stone and I am taking bulgaris vulgaris syrup from last 6 months I want to no is there any side effects for this on my kidney.

If you have taken Berberis Vulgaris and still the stone is there. I would recommend that you take Stonebreaker capsules, one daily for a month. Land Caltrops capsule, one daily for a month.

My husband had kidney stone two years back... he was taking Berberis vulgaris tincture ... recently he has undergone ultrasound which reports that there is no stone but he is having discomfort in the lower right side of abdomen... what could be the reason.... should he continue taking berberis or not?

Is it safe to use Berberis Vulg for a period of 6 months.
I am having h/o multiple renal calculi and now I am using Berberis since last 2 months
15 drops in 100 ml of water - twice daily along with Chimaphilia Umbellata 15 drops in 100 ml of water once daily.
So for how much duration is it safe to continue both the medications.
