Conjunctivitis is a disease of the Eyes.
An inflammation of the conjunctiva in Eye is Conjunctivitis.
Conjunctiva is a thin and moist membrane. It covers the external surface of the eyeball and inner surface of the eyelid.
It is caused by a bacterial infection.
The eye becomes red and is often accompanied by a discharge.
It is contagious and spreads from person to person through direct contact.
Do not confuse with Trachoma. Trachoma is a disease of the Cornea. It is dealt with separately on this portal.

Materia Medica for Conjunctivitis

Single Herb

Acacia Nilotica for Conjunctivitis

Make a paste of the leaves with water. Fold it in a clean cloth and put it over the closed eyes at bedtime.

Cabbage for Conjunctivitis

Apply the pulp of Cabbage leaves on closed eyes.

Rose Apple for Conjunctivitis

Prepare a decoction of Rose Apple leaves. Take it twice a day.

Carambola for Conjunctivitis

Prepare a juice of fresh Carambola fruit. Use two-three drops of thus prepared juice locally on eyes, twice a day.

Indian Gooseberry ( Amla ) for Conjunctivitis

Drink a cup of Indian Gooseberry juice with a tsp Honey in it. Have it once a day.

Coriander ( Dhaniya ) for Conjunctivitis

Soak 100 g dry Coriander in 1 liter of water. Use this water as an Eye wash.

Marigold for Conjunctivitis

Make an infusion of Marigold ( Gendha ) flower. Wash eyes with it, thrice a day.

Azadirachta Indica ( Neem ) Leaves for Conjunctivitis

Take 5 to 6 fresh Azadirachta Indica ( Neem ) Leaves. Boil in one cup of water on low flame for 10 minutes. Strain and Cool. Wash eyes with this water twice a day.

Wood Apple ( Kaitha ) Leaves for Conjunctivitis

Wood Apple ( Kaitha ) Leaves is beneficial to cure Redness, Inflammation associated with Conjunctivitis.
Take fresh Wood Apple ( Kaitha ) Leaves. Grind with little water. Apply the paste over eyes and leaves for half an hour. After half an hour, take off the paste and wash with fresh water.

Chamomile ( Babunah ) for Conjunctivitis

Boil dried flowers of Chamomile in Water. Cool and strain. Use it as an Eye Wash.

Sambucus Williamsii for Conjunctivitis

Prepare a decoction of Sambucus Williamsii flowers. Cool and strain. Use it to wash your Eyes.

Fennel ( Saunf ) for Conjunctivitis

Use decoction of Fennel Seeds for washing your Eyes.

Honey ( Shehad ) for Conjunctivitis

Add 2 tsp Honey in a cup of lukewarm water. Use it as an Eye Wash. Honey is Antibacterial, it helps to cure Conjunctivitis fast.

Milk for Eyes

Mix water with Milk in 1:2 ratio. Heat. Use it to wash your eyes when bearable hot.

Potato ( Aalu ) for Eyes

Put Potato slices over infected Eye for 15 mins.

Aloe Vera ( Gheekumari ) for Conjunctivitis

Extract juice of Aloe Vera. Soak a piece of cloth in it. Place it over infected Eye.
OR : Apply the leaf juice directly to the outer eyelid

Baking Soda ( Meetha Soda ) for Conjunctivitis

Add 10 g Baking Soda in 100 ml water. Use it as an Eyewash.

Barberry as Ophthalmic

Crush dried roots of Barberry to make powder. Add 8 g of it in lukewarm water. Use it as an Eyewash or Eye Compress.

Castor Oil ( Arandi ) for Conjunctivitis

Use Castor oil as an Eye Drop in the affected Eye.

Nutmeg ( Jaiphal ) for Conjunctivitis

Grind Nutmeg with Milk to make paste. Apply it on your infected Eye.

Flaxseed ( Alsi ) for Eyes

Make decoction of Flaxseed ( Alsi ). Dip a piece of cloth in the decoction when bearable hot. Put it on your Eyes. You may use it as an Eye wash.
Boil 20 g Chamomile ( Babunah ) flowers in 50 ml water. Use it to wash your Eyes when bearable hot.

Acacia Nilotica for Eye Diseases

Make leave paste of Acacia Nilotica. Tie it in a piece of cloth. Use it as a poultice.

Bael for Eyes

Heat few leaves of Bael. Tie them in a piece of cloth. Use it as poultice over Eyes.

Cynodon Dactylon for Eye Diseases

Extract the juice of Cynodon Dactylon grass, by crushing it. Apply it over your infected Eye.

Chinese Date ( Ber ) for Conjunctivitis

Pepare an infusion of leaves. Use as an eye drop twice a day.

Chinese Gynura for Conjunctivitis

Use the sap of leaves of Chinese Gynura as an Eye drop.

Eyebright for Conjunctivitis

Take 1 ½ tsp for Eyebright and boil it in 500 ml of water. Strain and cool the liquid and add 1 cup of rose water. Rinse your affected eye with this liquid.

Wheatgrass for Conjunctivitis

Crush Wheatgrass and squeeze out the juice. Pour that juice in a bucket and put your face into the bucket containing the mixture. Fluctuate your eyes into the mixture for 20 to 30 seconds. Repeat this method once a day and get an instant relief.

Garlic ( Lehsun ) for Conjunctivitis

Cut pods of Garlic ( Lehsun ) into small pieces. Crush it against a hard surface to extract its out juice. Take one of the pieces and smoothly apply rub it on the bottom lid. Initially it creates a burning sensation but after few minutes, it will provide relief from pain and irritation in the eyes. Do this treatment one time a day.

Jasmine for Conjunctivitis

Boil 6 to 7 flowers of Jasmine in 250 ml of water. Strain out the decoction and wet out a cotton by putting it in strained water. Now clean your eyes with the cotton. Do this procedure thrice a day.

Lemon for Conjunctivitis

Take a Lemon and cut it into two pieces. Squeeze it to bring out the juice. Put 2 drops of this juice in your eyes, twice a day.

Black Plum for Conjunctivitis

Boil 15 Black Plum leaves in 200 ml of water till it reduces to 50 ml. Cool it and wash your eyes with it.

Sandalwood ( Chandan ) for Conjunctivitis

Prepare a decoction of Sandalwood powder in one cup of water. Let it cool and then strain the water. Use it as an eye wash.

Basil ( Tulsi ) for Conjunctivitis

Collect black Basil leaves and grind them to extract its juice. Use this juice as an eyedrop. Put one drop in the affected eye daily before going to bed.
It is a good remedy to treat Sore Eyes.

Motherwort for Conjunctivitis

Dilute decoction of Motherwort is used as an Eyewash to treat Conjunctivitis, aching and tired Eyes.

Herbal Treatment For Conjunctivitis 1

Mix the juices of Parsley leaves, Carrot and Spinach in 1:2:1 proportion. Drink twice a day.

Take the following herbs :
Indian Gooseberry : Amla : 10 gram
Terminalia Bellirica : Baheda : 10 gram
Terminalia Chebula : Harad : 10 gram
Take 2 glass of water. Put all ingredients in water and soak it for overnight. Strain and cool. Wash eyes with this water.

Fill the water into a tub. Add some amount of Vinegar ( Sirka ) and Salt. Mix the water well. Dip your face in that water for 15 to 20 secs. Repeat this procedure once a day. It shows an instant effect on Conjunctivitis.

Buy Euphrasia Officinalis tincture and have 2 drops in a glass of water.
Buy Bilberry extract and give 2 drops in a glass of water 2 times in a day.
