Definition 
  Purgative herbs are those herbs that produce very strong laxative effects and watery evacuations.  These herbs increase Bowel movements.  They are a cure for Constipation.  
Effect of Purgative on Body:  
These herbs may affect both Small and or Large Intestines.
How does a Purgative work :   
These herbs may irritate the Intestines for the evacuation of bowels.  
Excess of Purgative herbs may cause : 
Diarrhea
Stomach Cramps
Note: 
If you want a strong Purgative effect you can use Sodium Sulphate and Rhubarb in combination.
   Single Herbs  
Operculina Turpethum as Purgative
   Rub root bark of Operculina Turpethum with Milk.  Take quarter tsp of it once a day.  Its purgative action helps to cure various diseases like Constipation, Flatulance etc. 
  
Jatropha as Purgative
   Roast 3-4 Jatropha seeds.  Take them with lukewarm water. 
  
Caesalpinia Bonduc ( Karanjwa ) Seed as Purgative
   Grind dried Caesalpinia Bonduc ( Karanjwa ) seeds.  Have 2 pinches with water.  It is a good purgative.

 Herbal Treatment For Constipation 22 
  Grind equal quantities of Beleric Myrobalan, ( Behada in Hindi), Embolic Myrobalan, ( Amla in Hindi ) and Terminalia Chebula ( Harad in Hindi ).  
Take one tablespoon before retiring at night.
It cures Anemia, Constipation, Indigestion and Spermatorrhea.
