Description
Sciatica is a disease of the Lower Back and the Legs.
The pain in the lower back that leads to the Legs and is caused by compression of the Sciatic Nerve is Sciatica.
It is not a disease itself, but a symptom.
Sciatic Nerve originates from the lower back of the Spinal Cord and extends down to the Legs through the buttocks. It is the longest nerve that begins near the spine through the pelvis ans travels down the legs. Pain related to this nerve is Sciatica. If one or more lumbar nerve is subjected to any sort of pressure, it will give rise to the pain in the Sciatic nerve. A number of disorders like displacement of Vertebrae,Slip Disc or Spinal Stenosis may also cause pressure and pain in the Sciatica Nerve.
Sometimes, the inner piriformis muscles of the hips get compressed, it is known as Piriformis Syndrome. The pain may be mild or severe and causes tingling also. Usually the pain goes worse at night.
Sciatica controls the muscles and ligaments at the posterior of the knees and lower legs. It is this nerve that gives feeling to the back of the thigh, the lower legs, and the soles of the feet.

Materia Medica for Sciatica
Single Herb For Sciatica you can apply externally or take internally a tincture of Yellow Cotton Tree.
Nigh Jasmine is a good herbal medicine to treat Sciatica. It holds Analgesic property. Thus it relives the pain of Sciatica.
Take 3 medium sized fresh leaves. Boil them in a glass of water on a low flame. Have it daily to cope up with the problem.
Night Jasmine Essential Oil as an Analgesic
Night Jasmine Essential Oil comprises of good Analgesic effects. That's why Night Jasmine Essential Oil is an effective cure to treat Headaches, Joint Pains, Sciatica, Muscular Pains and Lower Back Pain. Take 2 tablespoons of Mustard Oil. Warm. Add 10 drops of Night Jasmine Essential Oil. Use it for massage the affected area.
Due to its Antiinflammatory property, it help to stop Pain. Apply three drops of Bergamot Essential Oil to the lower spine area, followed by a few drops of Coconut Oil ( or any other carrier oil ). Repeat the process once a day.

Take 2 Garlic cloves and Carom seeds. Fry in 2 tablespoons of Mustard oil. Strain. Massage the affected part with this lukewarm oil.

Herbal Treatment For Sciatica : Kati Vasti Treatment
In India, the Ayurvedic name of Kati Vasti Treatment is also known as Ayurvedic Oil Pooling Treatment. This treatment is an efficient way to cure Sciatica.
Method is as follows
Ingredients :
Water : 1 litre
Murivenna Oil : 1 litre
Wheat ( Gehun in India ) Poultice : 10 to 20 gram
Dashmool Kwath : 100 gram
Knead Wheat Flour ( Gehun Ka Aatta in India ) : 500 gram
Karpooradi Oil ( Karpooradi Thailam in India ) : 1 litre
Mahamasha Oil ( Mahamasha Thailam in India ) : 1 litre
Mahanarayan Oil ( Mahanarayan Thailam in India ) : 1 litre
Dhanwantharam Oil ( Dhanwantharam Thailam in India ) : 1 litre
Preparations :
Knead the Wheat flour.
Make a ring of the kneaded flour and place it on the lower back.
Fix the bottom area of the ring with Wheat ( Gehun in India ) poultice.
Now mix 1 litre any of the two oils like Mahanarayan Oil ( Mahanarayan Thailam ) and Dhanwantharam Oil ( Dhanwantharam Thailam ) in a frying pan to warm it for 2 to 3 minutes.
Oil should be warm, to check it feel the temperature of the oil with your fingers.
Exercise :
Now, put a Sponge piece in a frying pan to absorb the oil and squeeze it inside the ring.
It will hurt in the beginning, but gradually the pain will reduce.
Make sure that patient should not move, else the ring will be displaced and Oil will drop out.
Squeeze the oil till the ring is half filled.
Keep a check on the oil inside the ring, it should not cool.
Now take out all the oil from the ring with the help of Sponge to reheat it.
Squeeze it again into the ring.
Simultaneously repeat this procedure for 5 to 6 times.
At the end, take out the oil and remove the ring.
Let the patient lay in the same position.
Massage the lower back of the patient to circulate the blood within the body.
Boil 28 gram of Dashmool Kwath in 1 liter of water for 10 minutes.
Strain it. Soak a towel in this warm water and squeeze it.
Place this towel over the lower back to heat it and thus provide relief from pain.
Follow it for 3 to 4 times.
Relax for one hour in the Corpse Pose ( Savasana ).
Take bath after the relaxation.
Regularly do Kati Vasti Treatment once every day, at least for a week.

Herbal Treatment For Sciatica 3
Take one tablespoon of Coconut Oil ( or any other carrier oil ) and add four drops of Rosemary, three drops of Peppermint and two drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil in it. Mix them well. Massage this blend to the Lower back area. Repeat the process two times a day.
It relaxes the muscles and ease Pain.
