Materia Medica for Zanthoxylum Budrunga
Zanthoxylum Budrunga General
All the plant parts are used medicinally. The peel of the fruits, seeds, bark of the stem, root and oil extracted from the plant are used medicinally.
The Bark is crushed and mixed with oil. It is used topically for Stomach Pains. Chewing it treats Snake Bite. A decotion of the Bark is used internally to cure Chest pain.
The fruits of the plant possess Aromatic, Astringent, Stimulant and Stomachic properties. The fruits are used in the treatment of Dypepsia, Asthma, Bronchitis, Heart Troubles, Toothache and Rheumatism.
The fruit yields an oil called the Mulliam Oil. The oil is obtained by steam distillation process. It is also applied as an Antiseptic and as a Disinfectant.
The skin of the fruit has Astringent, Stimulant and Digestive property.
A tincture of seeds is traditionally used to treat Cholera.
