Description
Hiatal Hernia is a disease of the Stomach.
This type of hernia is little different from the other types of hernias.
It occurs when the upper part of the stomach protrudes into the chest through the weak part of the Diaphragm.
Diaphragm is the separation between the chest and the abdomen.
Hiatal Hernia causes acid reflux and heartburn.
Hiatal Hernia is of two types
Sliding Hiatal Hernia : There is a small opening in the diaphragm called Hiatus. It joins the Esophagus and the stomach. Through this opening the esophagus passes the food into the stomach. In sliding hernia the stomach glides into the chest through the weak opening (Hiatus).
Paraesophageal Hiatal Hernia : In paraesophageal the esophagus and the stomach do not change their position. But the stomach becomes suppressed.
