High doses of Indian Snakeroot may cause severe Mental Depression.
It is also known to cause Irregular or Slow Heart Beat.
It may affect the Nervous system. It may lead to symptoms similar to Drowsiness, Convulsions and Parkinson's disease.
Sarpagandha contains Reserpine. Reserpine is toxic in nature and may cause side effects as

It is perennial.
It grows in tropical, subtropical regions.
It grows up to One Meter.
Best used for High Blood Pressure, Heart Diseases and Nervous System Disorders.
Materia Medica for Indian Snakeroot
Indian Snakeroot General
Indian Snakeroot is widely distributed in sub Himalayan ranges in India. The fruit of the plant is purplish black when ripe. The root powder is yellowish brown in color and coarse to fine in texture. The powder has a slight odor. It is pungent and bitter in taste and pungent after digestion.
It gives relief in Vata and Kapha. It relieves Insomnia and Agitation. It increases Pitta. It has a warming effect on the Body.
Indian Snakeroot is best for the treatment of High Blood Pressure, Insomnia, Painful delivery and Mental illness.
It is a Brain Tonic. It is given in combination with other Brain nourishing herbs.
It is used as an Antidote against Snake and Scorpion poisoning.
The bark, root and leaves of the plant are used for different medicinal purposes.
The root of Indian Snakeroot is rich in alkaloids. It contains more than 50 alkaloids including Reserpine, Deserpidine, Rescinnamine and Yohimbine. It also contains Rutin, Sterol, Oleic acid and unsaturated alcohols. The alkaloids present in roots of Sarpagandha possess medicinal benefits. Reserpine is a Hypotensive, Sedative and tranquilizing agent. The stem, bark and leaves of the plant contains small amount of alkaloids and rutin.
Being sedative and tranquilizing, Sarpagandh is used to treat Psychotic disorders. It treats maniacal behavior associated with Psychosis, Schizophrenia, Insanity, Insomnia, Delusions, Hallucinations, Paranoia, Schizophrenia and disordered thoughts.
It treats mild to moderate Hypertension ( High Blood Pressure ), Cardiac Oedema and Stress. It dilates the Blood vessels and lowers Blood Pressure.
It also treats Central Nervous System disorders, Anxiety states, Excitement, Fits, Intestinal parasite and Epilepsy.
It is sedative and treats Heart diseases. It relaxes the Blood vessels.

The paste of root of Rauwolfia Serpentina is topically used to treat Eczema. Externally, a decoction of roots is used to treat Scabies, Ulcers and injuries.
The juice of the leaves is used to cure Corneal Opacity.
Indian Snakeroot is used to treat diseases as Paratyphoid and Traumatic Wounds.
Side effects caused by Rauwolfia Serpentina are as follows
It increases dryness in the Body.
It disturbs the development of fetus. Do not use this in Pregnancy.
The herb is for strong but irritable patients. It is not for weak, lean and depressive patients.
However, long use of Sarpagandha is not promoted. It releases Prolactine in the body. It may cause Breast Cancer, Infertility, Hypogonadism ( low male hormones ), Acidosis, Shock and Arrhythmia.
Single HerbIndian Snakeroot ( Sarpagandha in India ) contains Reserpine. Reserpine has antihypertensive property which helps in lowering the Blood Pressure.
Take one pinch of Indian Snakeroot powder with water twice a day. Continue daily till the Blood Pressure comes down to the normal level.
The Nervine and Sedative properties of Indian Snakeroot ( Sarpagandha in India ) herb has calming effect on the mind. It stimulates and relaxes the nervous system. It gives relief from irritation and anxiety.
Add a pinch of Indian Snakeroot powder in a glass of Goat's Milk. Add sugar for taste. Have it two times day. Take it daily for 2 to 3 weeks.
Note : Not suitable for people with Low Blood Pressure.
Indian Snakeroot for Leucorrhea
Take 1 teaspoon of dried Indian Snakeroot with a glass of warm water. Take it once every day for 3 to 4 days. It will help to get rid of Vaginal Discharge.
