There appears to be no scientific basis for nephrotoxicity in juniper, but I have found studies showing that it is NOT toxic to the kidneys. Only in cases of overdose, but that also applies to many herbal remedies, as well as allopathic medicines. See: Schilcher and Leuschner 1997, and Schilcher and Heil 1994.
