Skin Cancer is a disease of the Skin.
The cancer that originates from the tissues of the skin is Skin Cancer.
Human skin is the primary defense system of the Body. It acts as a barrier against microorganisms and germs. It provides the senses to feel heat, cold and other external environment.
It is made up of the following parts
Epidermis : It is the outer layer of the Skin. It contains the melanin pigment secreted by melanocytes. Melanin gives color to the Skin.
Dermis : It lies beneath the Epidermis. It contains Sweat Glands, Oil Glands and Hair Follicles.
Subcutaneous Tissue : It lies under Dermis.
Normally the cells divide in a regular manner. But if the cells divide in an abnormal manner and not under control it give rise to the Cancer.

Types of Skin Cancer
Melanoma Cancer : Cancer that originates from the melanocytes is Melanoma Cancer. Melanocytes produces melanin pigment that give color to the Skin. It grows very fast and spread to other body parts.
Basal Cell Carcinoma: In this the mutation occurs in the Basal Cells. Basal cells are present next to the Squamous Cells. It is known as Skin Cancer. In this type of carcinoma the cancer cells replicates gradually. The reason behind is that, it occurs due to long term exposure of Skin to the UV Radiations. This may lead to mutation in the DNA of the Basal Cells, as a result chances of development of Cancer Cells increases.
Squamous cell carcinoma : It originates from the Squamous cells of the Skin. Squamous cells are the type of epithelial cells. They from the surface of the Skin. This type of Cancer grows very fast and spreads to other body parts. It may develop in the Skin, Lips, Mouth, Esophagus, Lungs, Urinary Bladder, Digestive System, Cervix and Vagina.
Neuroendocrine Carcinoma : These cells produce hormones and receive signals from the Nervous System.
The third type of cells present in the Epidermis is Mesothelioma cells. They protect the internal vital organs. This type of Cancer develops due to the long term exposure to Asbestos. Asbestos is a mineral which is used to woven into fabrics.
