Description
Frostbite is a disease of the Skin and the Tissues.
Damage to the tissues by exposure to extreme cold is Frostbite.
It happens when you are exposed to temperature below the freezing point of the skin for a long time.
The fluid inside the blood cells and tissues freeze. It causes blood clots in the blood vessels.
It reduces the blood flow and oxygen to the affected body parts.
Gradual freezing causes death of tissues in the affected region.
Frostbite is most likely to affect Figures, Toes, Nose, Ears and Cheeks.
It may also occur due to very tight clothing or shoes.
It has four stages and each stage has its varying degrees of pain.
First Degree Frostbite : It affects the outer surface of the skin. The initial symptoms are Pain, Itching, White or Yellow patches on the Skin and Numbness.
Second Degree Frostbite: The skin becomes hard but deep tissues are not affected. After a few days blisters may appear on the affected areas. Later on these blisters turn black and hardened.
Third Degree Frostbite: It affects the deep tissues, blood vessels, Muscles and nerves. It causes numbness, pain and loss of feelings.
Fourth Degree Frostbite: It is the extreme stage of Frostbrite. It causes damage to the nerve.
