Description
Gangrene is a disease of the Tissues.
Localized death and decomposition of body tissues, resulting from either obstructed circulation or bacterial infection is Gangrene.
It affects the extremities as the circulation there gets affected first.
The blood supplies oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and the organs. If there is an inadequate supply of blood, then the tissue or organs will die.
There are Five types of Gangrene
Dry Gangrene : It is a result of poor blood circulation and the tissues become dehydrated. The causes for Dry Gangrene are Atherosclerosis, Diabetes, High Cholesterol Level. It affects Hands and Feet.
Wet Gangrene : It is the bacterial infection that spread after burns, frostbite and some injury.
Gas Gangrene : It is very rare but a life threatening form of Gangrene. It affects the deep Tissues. In the beginning the skin looks normal but later on it turns from purple blue to black.
Internal Gangrene : This type of Gangrene develops in the organs.
Fournier's Gangrene : It affects the Genitals and the Digestive Tract
