Xanthoma is a disease of the Skin.
The formation of nodule due to the deposition of Lipids under the Skin is called Xanthoma.
They vary in size and are irregular in shape. They do not cause pain and are yellow in color. They may appear anywhere on the body but are commonly seen on Joints, Elbows, Feet, Hands, Buttocks and the Knees.
Xanthoma may be a result of a disease that leads to increase in blood lipids.
Types of Xanthoma
Xanthelasma: Nodule formation in or around the eyelid is called Xanthelasma
Xanthoma Tuberosum: Nodules located on the joints are known as Xanthoma Tuberosum
Xanthoma Tendinosum: Formation of the nodules in the tendons of the hand, feet and heel is called Xanthoma Tendinosum
Eruptive Xanthoma: A number of nodules suddenly appearing on the back, buttocks, extensors of the knees and elbows are known as Eruptive Xanthoma
