Serotonin Syndrome is a disease of the Whole Body.
Excessive accumulation of Serotonin in the body is Serotonin Syndrome. Serotonin is a chemical compound that is secreted by the Nerves. It helps in digestion and regulates the blood flow and body temperature. It supports the communication between the Brain cells and the Nerve cells.
Serotonin plays a role in the Brain too. Low level of Serotonin is linked with rise in Depression. This is the reason, people on antidepressant are found to be having excessive Serotonin levels and carrying Serotonin Syndrome.
However, high level of Serotonin cause life threatening complications. It disrupts the normal functioning of the Brain and the Nerves. It causes Confusion, Muscles Spasms and High Blood Pressure.
