Lymphoma is a disease of the Lymph Nodes.
The type of Blood Cancer that begins from the Lymphocytes ( White blood cells ) is termed as Lymphoma.
The Lymphocytes are a part of the Lymphatic system, which comes under the Immune System. The Lymphatic system includes tissues such as Lymph Nodes, Bone Marrow and Spleen. The Lymphatic system is the network of channels in the body. It is responsible for the drainage of lymph from the tissues into the blood. The Lymphatic System runs allover in the Body. It carries the fluid and the Immune cells. Lymphoma can occur anywhere in the body and can spread to other body parts as well.
The red alert symptom of Lymphoma is the swollen Lymph Nodes. The Lymph tissues are a part of Immune System. They may swell in case of an infectious disorder such as Sore Throat and Cold. When these disorders get treated, the Lymph Nodes get back to normal.
Types of Lymphoma Hodgkin Disease : There is abnormal growth of lymphocytes in the lymph nodes called Reed-Sternberg cells. It is a rare type of Cancer but may be cured easily. It is common in Chest and affects the nodes in a sequence.
Non Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL): This type of Cancer is more common. It occurs due to mutation in the B cells. These are infection fighting cells that fight with germs or pathogens. Due to mutation the cells replicate at fast rate and cause swollen Lymph Nodes. It is not an infectious disease and is more common in the abdomen. It is followed by Tumor and affects the different nodes.
Causes of Lymphoma The actual cause of the cell mutation is still not known. However, the following increase the risk of developing Lymphoma.
Old Age
HIV/AIDS
Family History
Organ Transplant
Autoimmune Disease
Viral Or Bacterial Infections
If not treated properly, Lymphoma may cause Paralysis : In Lymphoma the main symptom is the swelling of the Lymph Nodes. If the swelling increases to such an extent that it starts suppressing the nerves of the Spinal Cord or the other Organs of the body, it may cause Paralysis.
