Bipolar Disorder is a disease of the Brain.
The mental disorder that causes energy fluctuations and mood disorders is Bipolar Disorder.
A person is affected with abnormal mood shifts. He has suicidal tendencies. It may cause physical changes in the Brain and Mania that turns to Depression later.
Bipolar Disorder is differentiated into two Types. Bipolar Disorder Type 1 : In this the person gets frequent episodes of both manic and depressive mood. He feels mad, depressive and hyperactive. He becomes very irritated and wild. This will affect his performance in his personal as well as in professional life. The symptoms may last for one or two weeks. However, if it is not treated the symptoms may lasts for a year also and may becomes fatal.
Bipolar Disorder Type 2 : In this a person gets frequent attacks of Hypomania. Hypomania is a mild kind of mania and not a chronic condition. There are episodes of racing and suicidal thoughts and a person feels more depressive.
Cyclothymic Disorder : It is not severe as type one and two but is a chronic condition. In Type one and two the person feels either overexcited or irritated. But in this condition he becomes irritated.
The Bipolar Disorder effects the both behavior and emotions of a person. He may show some creative performance in manic phase. However, it may show the negative phase too and this may include disturbed thinking and poor judgment, which further leads to unfriendly thoughtless immoral behavior.

Depression: The patient will have frequent attacks of depression and will become more depressive. He may even harm himself.
Anxiety Disorders : There may be frequent episodes of Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Phobias and Post Traumatic Disorders.
Drugs or Alcohol Abuse: It may effect the mental level of the person. He may start taking drugs and will do self abuse.
Substance Abuse. Patients with bipolar disorder frequently abuse drugs and alcohol. Although drug and alcohol abuse may be a form of self-medication, substance abuse can trigger or worsen bipolar symptoms. Cigarette smoking is very common among patients with mental illness, including bipolar disorder, due in part to nicotine’s effects on the brain.
Differential Diagnosis : We frequently get confused with Personality Disorder and Bipolar Disorder. There is a very little difference in symptoms however, the treatments may be different for both conditions. Both conditions deal with the psychic health of a person and causes changes in the behavior.
The Bipolar disorder may results in physical changes in the Brain. In this a person may have recurrent episodes of depression.
People with Personality Disorder may get frequent attacks of mood swings. The episodes of Bipolar Disorder may occur for a short time or may be chronic. It may be treated by herbs, but if it is not treated, it may cause life threatening problems.
