Description

Angina is a disease of the Heart.
The Restricted Blood supply to the Heart Muscles causes Chest Pain. The condition is termed as Angina.
Angina is not a disease by itself, but is a symptom of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD).

The Heart is a muscular organ made of special muscles. It pumps oxygenated ( blood rich in oxygen )and supply it to other body organs with the help of Arteries. The blood provides nourishment to the body organs as it carries Nutrients also.

As all parts of the body needs oxygen to function properly, if restricted blood is supplied to any part, it cause problem. Like other organs, the Heart Muscles also needs enough amount of blood to function properly. If in any case the Heart Muscles lack oxygenated Blood, it causes problems.

Types of Angina

Stable Angina : The physical exertion is the reason behind stable Angina. When we are resting, our heart has no much work to do. but when we do some physical work out such as climbing stairs, hills, running , the heart has to work harder and need more oxygenated blood. But it may not get much blood.

Unstable Angina : Blocked Artery is the cause for Unstable Angina. The Arteries collect oxygen rich Blood from the Heart and supply it to rest of the body part. But sometimes there may be a deposition of plaque on the walls of the Arteries. As a result it restrict the blood supply. The another reason may be the Blood clots. It also reduces the blood supply to the Heart muscles.
The blocked Arteries increases the risk of Heart Attacks.

Variant Angina or Prinzmetal's Angina: It occurs due to spasm in the Artery. Spasm is an involuntary contraction of Muscles. When it occurs in the coronary Artery, it causes tightness in the Arteries. It stops the blood flow to the heart muscles. It may happen at night and causes severe pain in the Chest.

Microvascular Angina : It may be a result of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). In this, Plaque get deposit on the walls of the Artery.
