They prevent Pregnancy by inhibiting the growth of hormones that stimulate egg formation.

Oral Contraceptives contains artificial or synthetic forms of female hormones : Progestin and Estrogen. These hormones play a vital role in regulating a women's menstrual cycle. Any irregular rise or fall in these hormones plays a major role in fertility.
Two types of Oral Contraceptives are available :
Combined Oral Contraceptive : It contains artificial Estrogen and Progesterone.
Minipill : It contains Progestin, a man made version of Progesterone.
Oral Contraceptive pills are highly reliable method of contraception.
It combats the symptoms of Fibrocystic Breast.
It also reduces the risk of Heavy Bleeding, Irregular Periods, and Menstrual Cramps. It regulates the Menstrual Cycle and makes them periodic.
It prevents Ectopic Pregnancy. This type of pregnancy that occurs outside the Uterus, i.e. in the Fallopian Tubes.
The pills reduce the risk of Anemia, Acne, Pelvic pain caused by Endometriosis and Pelvic Inflammatory disease.
These pills increase the risk of particular Cancer types and also decrease the risk of few other Cancer types as Uterine, Colon and Rectal Caner.
Oral Contraceptives influence the growth of Cancer cells. It increases the risk of Breast, Cervical and Liver Cancer. Cancer is related to abnormal cell growth. The pills expose the tissues to high levels of hormones. It may lead to adverse side effects as in Pregnancy, Menopause and Cancer. The use of pills has increased the risk of Ovarian cancer. It leads to genetic mutation of genes, which results in fatal results.
The pills contain high levels of Estrogen. It increases the risk of Vascular and Heart Diseases. It causes High Blood Pressure and boosts the formation of blood clots in the blood vessels.
The pills do not offer any protection against Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
It may increase the risk of a Venous Thromboembolic Event ( VTE ), Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), Stroke and Myocardial Infarction (MI).
It may cause Depression, Irritability, Nausea, Weight Gain and mood changes in few.
