I am currently on Allopurinol to decrease the levels of uric acid in my body. I have gout due to these elevated levels. The uric acid causes buildup in my joints which then forms into crystals causing inflammation and unbearable pain. According to my Rheumatologist, my body isn’t excreting the uric acid properly through the kidneys. Allopurinol aids in the excretion and lowering of uric acid. My question is about Lomatium Root. I have read that this herb can cleanse the blood but have also read that it mostly aids in respiratory conditions. I would like to start taking Lomatium Root as a tea daily, along with my prescriptions, in hopes that it will aid in the excretion of the uric acid. Will Lomatium Root help me with this medical condition? Thank you.

Hi Matt, I suffered several terrible attacks of gout in 2017. Worst pain in this lifetime! I live next to a doctor who said she'd be happy to write me a prescription for Allopurinol. One of my many hats is herbologist (45 yrs.) so I immediately put that knowledge to work. I eliminated all hi purine foods, stopped all alcohol and beer (beer is the worst trigger for gout). I started using diuretic-type herbs in teas. Nettles, European goldenrod, hydrangea root, to name a few. I also now regularly use a red infrared heat lamp. It's gotten rid of my spider veins in my legs, and arthritis in my hands! It's an incredible health aid. Do a search on it. All my best to you. Good luck! Oh, to your question. Yes, lomatium is a diuretic, so yes it helps w gout.
