Description
Whipple's Disease is a disease of the Intestines.
The bacterial infection that damages the Gastrointestinal Tract and disrupts its normal functions is Whipple's Disease.
It is caused by Tropheryna Whipplei.
Normally the food is digested in the Gastrointestinal Tract. The food gets digested and absorbed in the Intestines. In Whipple's Disease the bacteria attacks the mucus membrane of the Intestines and causes Lesions. It damages the hair like projections called Villi present in the internal lining of the Intestines. The damage disrupts the normal functions of the Intestines. It causes malabsorption of the Nutrients. The Infection may spread to other parts of the Body such as the Eyes, Heart, Brain, Lungs, Joints and the Skin. The result is a diseased state as given in the symptoms.
