The pouches bulge out like weak spots in a tire. The pouches get inflamed and cause intestinal problems.

Diverticulum : One small pouch is known as Diverticulum.
Diverticula : More than one pouch is known as Diverticula. Diverticula may vary in size. Diverticula are common at the lower part of the Intestines, called Colon. The Colon is responsible for expelling waste from the body.
Diverticulosis : The occurrence of Diverticula in the colon is called Diverticulosis.
Diverticulitis : When the Diverticula become inflamed the condition is called Diverticulitis. It may be accompanied by Abdominal Pain or Fever. The cause may be acidity or weak wall of the bowel.
Diverticular Bleeding : In case of Constipation the pressure may increase on the walls of intestines. This causes bleeding and the condition is known as Diverticular Bleeding.
