The Mental Illness that causes changes in the Personality is Personality Disorder.
A person fails to regulate his thoughts and feelings. This leads to a negative and destructive behavior.
Personality is a mixture of characteristics inherited from Parents. It is an accumulation of experiences in our life, particularly as children. But the destructive behavior affects the patients personality.
Types of Personality Disorders.
Cluster A : It is associated with schizophrenia and an odd, eccentric personality disorder. It includes Paranoid, Schizoid and Schizotypal Personality Disorder.
Paranoid Personality Disorder : In this a person will not trust even his closed ones. He starts suspecting his partner, relatives and friends and believes they will take advantage of him. He sees danger or problem in every situation.
Schizoid Personality Disorder : In this type of disorder a person is not interested in doing social interactions. He likes to live in his own world with his own thoughts. He will not like any kind of interference in his life. He may lost his interest in sex life also. He experiences restricted emotional expressions and lack of joy in his life.
Schizotypal Personality Disorder : People with this type of disorder have their own perceptions and ideas. They find difficult in making close relationships. They have a different and an odd way to express themselves. They use such words or actions that may object other people. They have an eccentric and anxious behavior.
Cluster B : It is associated with dramatic and emotional personality disorder. It includes Antisocial, Borderline and Histrionic Personality Disorders.
Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD): As the name indicates they are antisocial. They are violent, lack empathy and may harm other people in an illegal way. They are hypersensitive, manipulative and not feel guilty after hurting other people. They are aggressive and get irritated easily.
Borderline Personality Disorder : It is associated with unstable emotions and mood swings. They are aggressive, violent and may harm themselves. They have repeated episodes of mood swings and cannot stay in a relationship for a long time. They have a feeling of emptiness, as they live in their own world. They live in an illusion world which is nowhere close to reality. They often experience hallucinations.
Histrionic Personality Disorder : People with this type of disorder are dramatic and overemotional. They only focus on their external beauty and always want to be the center of attraction.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder : In this type people are insensitive and selfish. They feel jealous if other people get some achievement. They think that they are more deserving then others and are self esteemed. They love their own personality and need for admiration.
Cluster C : These types of disorders are associated with feelings of Anxiety or Fear. They include Avoidant, Dependent, Obsessive compulsive Personality Disorders.
Avoidant Personality Disorder : People do not get involved in social activities because the fear of failure does not let them to. They are not interested in making relationships and have fear of rejection.
Dependent Personality Disorder : People feel self confidence and as the name indicates, they depend on others. They feel weak and helpless and are not able to take their own decisions without the help of other people. They need to be cared and pampered by their family members.
Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD): It is associated with rules, keeping things in order or controlled, and self esteemed. People with this type of disorder are very cautious and want perfectionism in every thing. They think that they are very efficient but in reality they are not.

Differential Diagnosis : People are often confused between Bipolar Disorder and Personality Disorder ( Borderline Personality Disorder ). Both conditions overlap each other and deal with the mental health of a person.
In Personality Disorder a person may try to hurt himself because he may have strong emotions. He frequently gets mood swings and fails to control his emotions.
Whereas Bipolar disorder may cause physical changes in the Brain. It is associated with Mania and Depression. The symptoms may be similar to Personality Disorder.
Materia Medica for Personality Disorder
Single Herb Steep 1 teaspoon of dried Yerba Mate leaves in one cup of water for 15 minutes. Drink it, once a day.
