Description
Hyperlactation is a disease of the Breasts.
The over production of the Breast milk than your baby's requirement is Hyperlactation.
Prolactin and Oxytocin are the two hormones that are responsible to release milk. Prolactin hormone is secreted by the anterior part of the Pituitary Gland. It is known as the Milk producing hormone. During pregnancy, it helps in the development of Milk. It is released into the Bloodstream where it is regulated by the Dopaminergic System. Prolactin also regulates the Metabolism and the Immune System. During pregnancy, the Prolactin stimulates the Mammary Glands. This causes enlargement of the Mammary Glands and leads to the production of milk. During pregnancy, the level of Estrogen and Progesterone is high. However, at the end of the pregnancy, the level of Progesterone hormone falls. This starts the production of milk. However, the excessive release of the Prolactin hormone in the Bloodstream causes the over production of the milk after pregnancy. The over production of prolactin hormone in the Bloodstream is known as Hyperprolactinaemia.
The Oxytocin hormone is secreted by the posterior part of the Pituitary Gland. It helps in the contraction of the Uterus. It is responsible for milk ejection from the milk canals.
The hormonal imbalance may cause the over production of milk. Sometimes, it may spoil your dress also. It causes Infections, Painful Breastfeeding and Reflux in your baby.
