Description
Phimosis is a disease of the Penis.
When the foreskin of the Penis becomes tight and fails to retract. Call it Phimosis. The foreskin tightly covers the Head of the Penis. It causes pain when you try to pull the skin back. The main cause is congenital. Other causes may be Injury, Infection or Inflammation. Phimosis interferes the urination and sexual intercourse. It causes poor blood circulation that may result in purple head of the Penis.
It is mainly congenital and common in babies. However, it may develop in old age also. The cause may be celibacy, infections or injury. As you grow old, the body becomes deficient in collagen. The Skin and the connective tissues, all over the body loose their elasticity. This goes for the penis too. The excessive shrinking of the foreskin due to lack of use, may cause Phimosis.

Types of Phimosis
Congenital Phimosis: It is also known as Physiologic Phimosis. It is present by birth. A little manipulation for a few days may resolve the issue. Some religions practicing circumcision take care of the problem before it occurs.
Acquired Phimosis It is a result of poor hygiene, Blantitis or recurrence of Infections. The forceful retraction of the tight foreskin may also develop Acquired Phimosis. It interferes with the sexual activities. It causes swelling of the head of the Penis and Urinary Tract Infection. Because daily cleaning is not possible, smegma may accumulate and cause further infections.

Differential Diagnosis : Paraphimosis is a condition when the foreskin is pulled back and it stuck there. It causes pain and poor blood circulation in the Penis. It causes swelling and inflammation also. The foreskin should go back to covering the glans. If not, it may cause further complications.
