Coriander-The evergreen Herb

Coriander is a popular herb . It is a small plant which adds flavor to the dishes. It is popularly known as 'Dhaniya' in Hindi which means the “ the rich one”. It appears under many names because of its use in many places. In Sanskrit it is named as Kustambari. Coriander essential oil can be extracted from its seeds, which can be used for aroma.
It grows in a temperate climate. Most of the people like the taste of the fruit and would describe it as warm, nutty and spicy. Coriander has a myriad of health benefits and is best used for Indigestion, Flatulence and Heavy Metal Poisoning.

Additional Health benefits of coriander:
- Coriander is antibacterial in nature.
- It cures pimples, Blackheads and oily Skin.
- It helps the body to fight against Cold ,Flu and Cough.
- It is useful in relieving Menstrual Disorders mainly Painful Menses.

Methods to use:

1. Heavy Metal Poisoning: Eat a cup of fresh coriander leaves for 7 days for every six months.
2. Stomach Ache: Take 2 tea spoons of Coriander seeds, Boil it in 250 ml water and drink this infusion.
3. Weak Eyesight: Take some Coriander leaves, add Green Chili and salt according to your taste. Grind them. Eat it cooked with your meals every day.
4. Menstrual Disorder: Take 5 tablespoons of Coriander seeds, boil in 2 glasses of water till it remains half. Add jaggery to it and have it.
5. Cold: Boil 4 tablespoons of Coriander seeds in half jug of water. Add jaggery according to your taste. Heat on low flame till the mixture becomes thick. Have one teaspoon once a day.

- Antioxidant
- Antipyretic
- Alkaline
- Analgesic
- Anaphrodisiac

Nutrients : Coriander is rich in nutrients like :
- Magnesium
- Potassium
- Alpha Carotene
- Alpha Pinene

A word of caution: Although, Coriander has numerous health benefits but, its side effects should not be overlooked.
1. Avoid use during pregnancy.
2. Excessive use of Coriander seeds can cause Liver problems.
3. Coriander might decrease Blood Pressure.
4. It causes Photosensitivity, Allergies

Thus, Coriander is a quintessential herb for every kitchen. It will not only add flavor to your dishes , but, will also bestow upon you the exceptional health benefits.
