Fighting Cold
We have fought Cold for centuries. The battle still goes on. Cold comes when season changes. Cold comes when temperature changes. Cold comes when days are warm and nights are cold. Cold develops sore Throat, runny Nose, Body pain, Fever, Coughing and Sneezing. These are not diseases but various symptoms of Cold.
Herbal Treatments of Cold
Herbal treatments are effective and reduce the severity of Cold symptoms. Below given are some common methods widely used in treatment of Cold. Discussion with your Healthcare Professional is must before use.
1) Gargles for Sore throat. Cold causes a Sore throat. You may feel pain and irritation in throat, even difficulty in swallowing food. You want instant relief from a sore throat, try Gargles. Gargles done with ½ tea spoon of salt dissolved in a warm glass of water, provides instant relief from a sore throat.
2) Herbs for Cold treatment. Ginger, Garlic, Honey and Lemon are known to provide relief in Cold symptoms. Below given are some methods of their consumption. For a complete list of Herbs those are beneficial in Cold, you can refer our Diseases section on Cold.

Ginger Take 5gm of Ginger and boil it in one glass of water. Drink this every 4 hours for 2 days. It helps to thin mucus, warm the lungs and soothes the throat.

Ginger, Garlic and Honey Grate 5gm of Garlic and Ginger. Boil them in one glass of water. Add 2 table spoons of Honey and Lemon to it. Drink 20ml of this twice a day.

Lemon Juice Lemon is rich in vitamin C. It also improves Immunity. Drink Lemon juice mixed in warm glass of water twice a day.
3) Steam treatment in Cold. Place your head over a pan half filled with boiled water. Cover yourself with a towel and inhale Steam through nose and mouth. It helps to ease congestion. Do this twice a day.
4) Steam with Ginger. Input 4 drops of Ginger tincture in a litre of boiled water. Take steam for 5 minutes, twice a day.
5) Drink hot fluids in Cold. Hot vegetable soup, Garlic tea is beneficial in providing relief from throat and nassal congestion.
6) Drink lots of Water. Drink plenty of water when suffering from Cold. Usually 8 to 10 glasses of water a day is considered good. It prevents dehydration in Cold and also loosens the mucus.
7) Rest is beneficial. Body needs energy to fight Cold. Rest and proper sleep energize the Body. They help in speedy recovery from Cold. Usually, 6 to 7 hours of sleep is considered good for health.
