Terebinthinae Oleum General
Terebinthinae Oleum is the oil of Turpentine. It is obtained from trees of Confirae family as Pines, Spruce, and Hemlock. Terebinthinae Oleum is a homeopathic preparation made from the resin of certain pine trees. The oil of Turpentine is obtained by distillation of resin from Pine trees. However, the distilled turpentine is also used for flavoring in food and beverages.
Turpentine oil is often confused with Gum Turpentine, which is just resin. Turpentine oil is made after rectification of the resin. Oil is applied to the skin for joint pain, muscle pain, and nerve pain. On applying it produces warmth and redness on skin which helps in relieving the pain in tissues underneath.
CAUTION: It may cause irritation when applied to the skin. For this, first, apply oil on a small portion on the upper hand. Wait for 5-10 minutes, if it doesn't irritate your skin, you may use it further.
Inhalation of oil is considered for treating Congestion.
