Description
Exotropia is a disease of the Eyes.
When one or both Eyes are misaligned and deviated outwards, it is Exotropia.
Normally the Eyes see the image from different angles. They send the image to the Brain. The Brain then forms a single image and we see a single object. In Exotropia the Eyes are deviated outwards. It causes Double Vision and tiredness in the Eyes. It is associated with Squint and Strabismus.
There are three types of Exotropia
Congenital Strabismus : It is present by birth. It may be due to genetic disorders.
Intermittent Exotropia : It may be seen in day dreaming. It may be a sign of failure of binocular vision. It means the Brain fails to create a single image.
Sensory Exotropia : It occurs in case of poor eyesight. Poor sight fails to coordinate the eyes.
