Wild Ginger General

Wild Ginger refers to a number of plant varieties of Ginger. The different plant varieties have similar appearance, odour or taste. The different plant species are :
Alpinia Caerulea
Asarum Caudatum
Hedychium Gardnerianum
Asarum Caudatum is named as British Columbia Wild Ginger, Western Wild Ginger and Long Tailed Wild Ginger. It is used as Tea. The whole plan possesses Analgesic, Antirheumatic, Appetizer and Antifungal property. The plant root is laxative, stomachic and tonic. It is used in the treatment of Colds, Colic, Indigestion and Stomach pains. The decoction of herb is used topically for Headaches, Intestinal Pain and Knee Pain. I is also used as a wash for sores. A poultice made from the heated leaves is used medicinally. It treats Boils, Skin Infections and Toothaches.
Hedychium Gardnerianum is also known as Kahili Ginger, Kahila Garland Lily or Ginger Lily. The plant contains Villosin. The compound possesses potent toxic activity against Human Small Lung Cancer.
Alpinia Caerulea is also called Native Ginger. It contains a white pulp. The pulp has a sour taste. It is used to activate salivary glands to moisten the mouth. It is preferred during Bushwalking. It is used to make herbal Teas.
