Description

Allspice is a tree.
It is an evergreen.
It belongs to the Myrtle family.
It grows in a tropical climate.
It grows up to 12 M.
Best used for Toothache, Gum Diseases.

“An All-Round Healer” Allspice tree is ever green. Allspice or Kababchini a spice commonly known as “Cubeb Pepper is used in Asian countries for cooking purposes. It is the dried fruit of a deodar tree “Pimenta dioica” which belongs to the family of creepers. The Pimenta dioica is a parasitic shrub which survives on other full-grown trees.

The Cubeb Pepper shrub is about 9 meters in height and its leaves are egg-shaped and ten to twelve cm in length. The fruit it bears are still unripe and green in color. The color of the fruit turns black when it is dried in the Sun. The fruit or the berries are forty seven mm in diameter. Allspice berries are similar to large brown peppercorns. The berries vary in size between 4 to 7 mm (1/8 - 1/4 in) and are dark red-brown in color. The outer shell contains two seeds.

These berries are ground to a fine powder and have a sharp odor and a mild, sweet taste. Cubeb Pepper or Kababchini grows in Central and South America, Mexico, Kashmir and in some parts of India.

Kababchini or Renuka, is a popular cooking ingredient in India and many other Asian countries. Usually used for flavoring curries due to its amazing fragrance.

Allspice gets its rich and fragrant aroma from the volatile oil Eugenol, the same substance that has made oil of clove such a well-known pain desensitizer.

Allspice is sweetly pungent with a peppery kick, a complex taste. It puts flavor to the liqueurs and is used as a common ingredient in curries.

It is best known best known, however, as a pickling agent.

Allspice is commonly used to fragrance cosmetics and even deodorants.
