Description
Ecchymosis is a disease of the body.
When the body is bruised by a blunt object,and bleeding takes place just below the skin, the skin changes color first to purple and then to blue or black. If there is a break in the skin and blood comes out, then it is not Ecchymosis.
A black eye is typically a case of Ecchymosis.

Differential Diagnosis:
People get often confused between the two terms that is Ecchymosis and Hematoma.
Hematoma is the swelling caused by some trauma or injury. In this the blood leaks out of the blood vessels and gets collected in the tissues.
Ecchymosis is caused by bruises and is not follwed by swelling. It is discoloration of the Skin.
Arnica is the best remedy.
