Deafness is a disease of the Ear.
Deafness is the inability of a person to hear sound. It may be complete loss of hearing or it may be partial.
Most humans can normally hear sounds from about 300 Hz to about 10,000 Hz. Human ears can be sensitive to sounds above and below this range too.
When a person cannot hear sounds in the normal range we call it Deafness or Hearing Loss.
Deafness may be complete or partial. You may not be able to hear anything at all. That's complete deafness. When you have to ask people to speak louder and then you can hear them, call it partial hearing loss.
A person may partially lose the ability to hear a range of frequencies. If the deterioration is in the higher end of the normal range, he may have to strain to hear female voices.
